The Wild Way to Say “I Do”
Some love stories aren’t meant to stay tethered to the ground.
Mink & Max came all the way from Australia to let the wind carry theirs somewhere wild. Iceland was the place – not just for its postcard views or the drama of black sand and waterfalls, but for its ability to strip everything back to the raw, the real, the sacred.
They didn’t want a curated spectacle. No tight timeline. No room full of guests. Just a trail leading into the unknown, boots laced tight, hearts wide open, and vows spoken to the rhythm of their own breath.
Late June greeted them with endless daylight – the kind that blurs night and day, where the sun forgets to sleep and the moss turns a shade of green that feels impossible. It’s also the time when the highlands open their gates. Þórsmörk and Landmannalaugar: two corners of Iceland that still feel like myths
What they wanted was simple: to hike deep into the landscape, find a place that felt untouched, and make their promises somewhere no one had before. What they found was something more – a two-day journey of emotion, laughter, sweat, ceremony, and silence
This is the story of how we climbed mountains together, crossed rivers, drank from streams, and chased light until it disappeared behind peaks – only to rise again in another part of the map. This is how two souls promised forever, twice, under skies that never darkened
Let’s start where the wild things live – deep in the valleys of Þórsmörk.
Curious how plan a wild elopement in Iceland?
Getting Ready – Jacob’s Old Farmhouse
The morning began slow and sacred. Inside a weathered red farmhouse on the edge of civilization, Mink & Max readied themselves not in separate rooms, but side by side. There were no traditions to obey, just a quiet rhythm: Max zipping packs, Mink tucking ceremony vows into her coat pocket. Steam rose from mugs. Hiking boots were laced tight. The air already hummed with anticipation.

Into the Highlands – River Crossings & Rough Roads
Þórsmörk doesn’t reveal itself easily. It makes you earn it – with rumbling F-roads, deep river crossings, and an ever-changing terrain that keeps your pulse sharp. In our sturdy 4×4, we drove deeper and deeper until phone signals vanished and moss took over. If you’re reading this and dreaming of eloping in Þórsmörk: this isn’t your average drive. It’s a gateway to the mythic. Come prepared.

Thinking of Driving to THórsmörk on Your Own?
Let’s talk about F-roads – Iceland’s mountain roads. The “F” might as well stand for feral because these are not your average countryside lanes. F-roads are often rough, always unpaved, and cross rivers with no bridges. Some are passable with the right 4×4, others will eat your rental car for breakfast.
Þórsmörk is only accessible via one of the most notorious F-roads in Iceland, filled with deep river crossings and shifting terrain. Every year, rental cars get stranded, engines flood, and tow trucks come running (at a very hefty price tag). Even locals treat this drive with respect.
Our advice?
Unless you’re used to off-roading and river fording – don’t do it alone. Book a local guide or go with professionals who know the land (like us). Getting to Þórsmörk is part of the adventure, but only if you make it there safely.
If you’re dreaming of an Iceland elopement that leads to this hidden valley – know that the journey is wild, and absolutely worth it.

The Hike – Into the Heart of the Canyon
We met Magga Gauja, their celebrant and fellow mountain wanderer, at the edge of the trail. The hike wasn’t long, but it held weight. Mink carried her bouquet like it was forged from the forest. Max’s tailored suit caught the wind. They drank from mountain streams and paused where the canyon cracked open to the sky. No audience. No soundtrack. Just the soft sound of boots on volcanic dust.

The Ceremony – An Ancient Ritual in the Highlands
At the edge of the world, where green canyons split the earth and the sky leans in close, Magga stepped forward to begin the ceremony.
No microphones. No chairs. Just a patch of moss, a stream murmuring far below, and a stillness so vast it made the moment feel mythic.
She spoke not from a script, but from the soul – weaving their story into something elemental. This wasn’t a performance. It was a rite. The kind you might imagine in the old sagas, when love was promised under open skies and sealed with stone and silence.
Mink & Max stood shoulder to shoulder, hands linked, eyes bright with that shimmer that comes when the gravity of it all sets in. The rings were passed between them like talismans – not just symbols, but anchors for the wild promise they were making.

Where Only the Wind Listens – A Moment for Two
Some words are too sacred for an audience. Even one as gentle and open-hearted as Magga.
So after the ceremony, we hiked a little farther – up, over, and away – until the ridgeline gave way to a hidden overlook, and the world fell quiet again.
This was the place Mink & Max had chosen for their vows. Not to be heard, not to be captured – but to be felt. Just the two of them, held by mountains and sky, their voices folded into the wind.
We stepped back. Far enough that we couldn’t hear the words, but close enough to witness the weight of them.
There were tears. A laugh. A long exhale.
When they turned back toward us, they looked different – like something old and new had been etched into the space between them.
If you’re reading this and wondering how your ceremony could feel even more personal – this is one way. A vow exchange set apart. Private, profound, and wildly freeing. No pressure to perform. Just presence.
Let the wind carry your promises. It never forgets.

Golden Light Descent – Fading Into the Wild
As the sun began to dip – though never fully set – the light turned to gold. We wandered back down the trail, stopping for portraits as the canyon glowed around them. Just as we reached the car, the sun cracked through the last ridge.
One final frame. One quiet exhale.

Day Two: Landmannalaugar – The Dream Continues
After the vows are said, what comes next is freedom.
With no ceremony to anchor them, day two became something looser, lighter – a chance to breathe deeper, laugh louder, wander wider. Landmannalaugar greeted us with open skies and technicolor hills, as if the earth had spilled paint across the rhyolite.
Gone was the mist and moss of Þórsmörk. Here, the palette turned to warm golds and volcanic reds, neon green moss clinging to black lava. It felt like walking through a fairy tale written by fire and ice – the kind of place where trolls might sleep beneath your boots and elves hide in steam vents.
Mink & Max leaned in. Different outfits. Different weather. A different energy entirely. No need for structure, just movement. They hiked as if they belonged to the land, never hesitating, never breaking stride. Two full days of adventure, and not a single complaint. Just awe and the occasional snack.

We roamed without rush. Climbed ridgelines for the sheer joy of the view. Paused often – not for photos, but for feeling. The camera simply followed.

This second day wasn’t just an add-on. It was a continuation, an echo with its own voice. It gave space for play, for perspective, for portraits that sang a different song.
If day one was sacred, day two was spellbound.
And if you’re wondering whether two days is too much – maybe the better question is: what kind of story do you want to tell?
Because sometimes the real magic happens after the pressure lifts.

So You Want to Elope in the Highlands?
You’ve made it this far – through moss-draped canyons and steam-slick lava fields – and something inside you is whispering this could be us. Good. That whisper is worth listening to.
But here’s the truth:
Iceland’s highlands are wild. They don’t play nice. They’re not on your tourist map.
And planning an elopement out here? It’s not just a matter of booking a pretty spot and hoping for good weather. It’s logistics. Terrain. Timing. Permits. River crossings. Backup plans. Locals-only knowledge.
This is where we come in.
We’re not just photographers. We’re chaos cartographers.
We scout the canyons that don’t show up on Instagram.
We time the light and the roads and the river levels.
We build the rhythm of your elopement like a poem – breathing in stillness, breathing out adventure.
But let’s give you a starting point. Here’s what you really need to consider if you’re dreaming of saying your vows in the heart of the highlands:
1. Beauty Demands Flexibility
Out here, the most breathtaking places often require a hike – sometimes short, sometimes steep, sometimes muddy.
But what you get in return? Absolute solitude. Views that feel like a secret.
We help choose trails that match your energy, your outfit, your pace – and we carry backup snacks, always.
2. F-Roads Are No Joke
Most of the highland locations require a serious 4×4, knowledge of river crossings, and respect for the roadless-ness of it all. Tourists get stuck every day trying to DIY this. Don’t.
You need someone who knows what “impassable” really means. We’ve driven these roads in every season, and we’ll get you in and out safely – and on time for golden hour.
3. Two Days = Twice the Story
One day is beautiful. Two days is a journey. It gives space for both the ceremony and the dream. Space to explore, to shift moods, to chase light and wake up in a different kind of magic. It’s not indulgent – it’s elemental.
4. Weather Is a Co-Author
Forget the forecast – it will lie to you.
We plan with real-time data, road alerts, and our own weather-nose. And if the skies flip the script? We adapt. We pivot. We find the beauty inside the storm. That’s Iceland. That’s us.
5. No Two Elopements Should Ever Look the Same
This isn’t a template. Your love isn’t a template.
We custom-build every elopement from the ground up – from location to lighting to rhythm to rituals – so it feels like your fingerprints are all over it. The day should feel like you, not like something you saw online.

Ready to Write Your Own Wild Chapter?
If something stirred in you while reading – if your bones ached for mossy trails and wind-swept vows,
If you found yourself dreaming of a day that feels more than it performs –
You’re not alone.
That tug in your chest? That’s the map calling.
We believe your elopement should feel like your story made tangible – not someone else’s script, not a Pinterest checklist. Just the two of you, somewhere that feels ancient and alive, saying words that matter.
We’d be honoured to help you carve it.
