Moody Snæfellsnes Destination Wedding

Bad Weather Doesn’t Mean Bad Photos

It’s no secret that some of our favourite images have been shot in less than ideal conditions. Bad weather brings with it so much character, mood and feeling. People also tend to drop all guards and masks when they have to face the elements head on and feel the rain and wind on their skin. Making our images all the more real, raw and emotional.

The September day that Joey & Jordan got married on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula was the definition of moody. Low hanging clouds, random gusts of wind and the promise of rain hung in the air all morning. But if you ask us, this is the perfect mood for a day on the peninsula, it just doesn’t feel quite right in bright sun and blue skies. This is the weather that draws out all the drama form the mystical landscapes.

The little black church

They whole family got ready at cozy little wooden cabins standing on a hill over looking the rough seas and mountains of the peninsula shrouded in mist. The morning was filled with so many sweet little moments between friends and family members, that added so much depth to the story of the day.

Next the group drove through the foggy landscapes across the peninsula to Búðir where the now famous black church stands alone by the sea. There the guests filed into the old church while Joey waited outside for Jordan to show up and on a grassy knoll with views over the surrounding lava fields they saw each other for the first time that day.

The ceremony was beautiful with lots of personal little touches from the pastor, tears and laughter from the audience and ended with a passionate kiss to seal the deal.

Moody, intimate & raw

The rest of the day was spent exploring the peninsula from the mountain tops to the sea. The moody skies, gusts of wind and heavy downpours of rain all added to the drama of the day. The couple drove in an old Land Rover Defender between locations, the right vehicle for the rough country roads and mountain passes we covered that day.

Joey & Jordans first dance was in the pouring rain on a cliff where the small streams came crashing down to meet the sea.

Dinner Under Kirkjufell Mountain

What is better after a day out in the rain than huddle together in a cozy little house by the shore.

The restaurant Bjargarsteinn is located in an old house across the water from the famous Kirkjufell mountain, which has been named the most photographed mountain in Iceland. There the guests enjoyed a dinner made out of local ingredients and had the Icelandic Kransakaka for desert, an almond flavoured tower cake.
